Chalmos Short Story #1

So I wrote this one a long time ago, and like the ones from 2113 I'm and still working on the full length book for this time period. Anyway enjoy

During the one hundred and ninety first year of Elkií, chieftain of the wyans, in the 12th century a large conflict arose in the land of Chalmos between the humans and the Dratashck (see note below for info). It started when Dratashck rebels successfully overthrew the current semi-corrupt ruler and in his place set up an even more corrupt system. Determined to show their superiority over all of the five races of Chalmos, the Dratashck marched on the Human Lands because the humans at the time were considered to most powerful of the five. At first the war went well for the Dratashck. They managed to destroy many cities on the outskirts of the human’s lands and successfully cut them off from the urye clans to their west destroying any chance for the humans to receive help from the urye clans. But all that began to change when a man called Deyna appeared in the city of Antirem, which at the current time sat at the front on the human defenses, and claimed that the Unseen One had sent him to deliver the humans.

At first the humans greatly doubted the fact that the Unseen One had called this man. However, as soon as they saw that Deyna bore the mark of those called by the Unseen One they dispelled their doubt. Deyna then appeared before the council of leaders to take charge of the human army.

However, the council feared Deyna and even though they saw the mark of the Unseen One they still doubted him. Instead of instantly giving him charge of the army they instead decided to test him first. They decided to send him with group of men to break through the enemy lines and make it to the urye clans and elicit help from. If he could do this, they told him, he would assume place of commander.

Early the next morning Deyna set out with a group of men numbering about two score and a half. They set out through the forest and began to move towards enemy lines. For a while the forest remained silent except for the noise of the soldiers feet hitting the soft forest floor. Patches of sunlight broke through the trees casting odd shaped patterns across the forest floor. The smell of various plants, large oak trees, rotting trees, and animal waste filled the air. By mid-day they had come near to the enemies.

“Well now the hard work begins,” said captain Tevon.

“Indeed it does captain,” replied Deyna.

“Any idea how we are going to get through lord?”

“Send scouts up ahead to see if they find any gap or weak spot to break through. Report to me the moment they arrive back. For now we will set up a temporary camp here. Tell the men to be ready to move at any moment.”

Deyna then went off by himself into the forest and after walking a little way he sat down and began to talk to the Unseen One.

“Well, I’m here now what do I do. I’m no strategist so how am I going to do this. I only have fifty men and who knows how many they have. Are you sure this is what You wanted me to do.”

And the out of nowhere he heard a reply.

“Trust in me. This is all in my will. When the scouts return they will tell you of a possible place to sneak by the Dratashck and another spot where their forces seem to be few and a place where it seems to majority of their army is camped. I want you to march your men towards the large army. Do this and you will succeed in your mission. However, if you do not and take what appears to be the easy way you will surely fail.”

And then like that the voice disappeared leaving behind a very torn Deyna.

“What am I to do? Attack an army of Dratashck with only fifty men? Or go the other way and risk losing everything? Also if I do what the voice says the men will surely think I have lost my mind. Well He got me this far so I guess I’ll trust that voice and hopefully if I act with confidence the men will follow.”

Deyna arrived back in camp to find that the scouts had returned and had made their report to Tevon.

“So what is news, captain?” he asked.

“Well they found two possible places where we could successfully get through their lines.”

“Never mind abut those places. Ask them to guide us to the main strong hold and tell the men were going to attack.”

“You are clearly trying to be funny, but this neither pace nor the time to be making jokes. Nor is the type of joke that would be appreciated anywhere.”

“That is why I am not. Captain, ready your men we march as soon as they are ready.” Said Deyna walking off to put on his armor, leaving behind an extremely shocked captain Tevon. He stood there for a few minutes trying to deiced whether to do what he should or do or not. But he decided to follow his leader and soon the men were marching towards the Dratashck camp.

When they got close, Deyna halted all the men and told them to charge in on his word and to stay together as a large group.

“All we need to do is break through and run as fast as we can to the Urye. We fight now for the survival of race. Charge!”

And with that Deyna and his men charged through the trees towards the Dratashck. They caught the first group of Dratashck unaware and they did not get a chance to raise the alarm before they died. Deyna and his me swept into the enemy camp taking the Dratashck by surprise and then just as soon as it started the land became completely silent.

“I don’t get it. I thought this was their main camp. Where are all of them?” wondered Tevon.

“I’m guessing those are what the scouts saw,” said Deyna indicating several hooded figures.

Without thinking, Tevon raced over and slashed at the figures and instead of agonizing cries the figures remained silent. Perplexed Tevon took a closer look at the figure he had just cut down.

“Wait a minute these aren’t Dratashck. These are just simply cloaks and hoods set up with javelins.”

“Well it seems they knew we were coming and I bet we would find the rest of their main forces at the other places the scouts reported. Now let us get going because some of the other Dratashck might have heard that and will be coming with the rest of them.”

They immediately took off running through the forest and across the plains when they came to them until by mid-morning they reached the lands of the urye clans.

2113: short story #2

The rain poured down on the battlefield. The dark sky was lit up with the light of missiles and laser fire. The Shunam were invading the town of Garret. Only the local militia had been left to fight. The army had left a few planes in the sky for airstrikes but other than that and giving the militia a few more powerful weapons they had pulled out to “more strategically important locations.” It did not take long for the Shunam to figure out the town was abandoned and soon their squads stormed the town. No matter how well they had constructed their defenses, the militia were not prepared for the vast number of far more advanced troops that stormed their town. In almost no time at all they had retreat to the approximate center if the town. There the militia leaders debated what to do.
“Look we need to get the Hell out of here now!” screamed one.
“We can’t just give up our town like that to those monsters! Command gave us this bomb here, if we use it right we may save ourselves.” argued another.
“If we stay here will die! The towns already mostly destroyed! That bomb will change nothing! No need in getting ourselves killed for no reason. Tell him commander!” yelled the first.
“Look, I know how much this place means to you but you need to let it go. This place is lost and we will be too if we don’t leave. I’m calling in an airstrike to cover our retreat.”
“You can’t do that to my home!” screamed the second.
“Those are my orders! I’m calling it in now!”
However, before the commander could a shot hit him in the chest and he feel to the ground.
Instantly the soldier knew he was dead. He knew there was nothing left to do but follow his orders.
“You call the retreat while call in the air support. He’s right we’ve lost this place so let makes them pay for it.” He said to the other soldier, who looked at him for a moment then turned to follow his orders.
Soon the sound of aircrafts filled the air. And then came the bombs. Explosions were everywhere. Before his eyes houses and buildings were blown in a million pieces.
It was the perfect bittersweet moment. He saw pieces of the houses he knew fly through the air yet also he saw bodies of those that had taken everything from his go with them. As his comrades ran back in retreat, he stood there paralyzed. They had taken everything from him. He saw more Shunam coming at him through the remains and yet he did not retreat. He stood his ground with his rifle in hand. He began dropping them likes flies and they kept coming yet he stood his ground. He kept firing till his rifle ran out of ammo and then with out hesitation he picked up the gun of a fallen comrade and continued firing. He barely saw anything but the heads of his enemies and that’s where his bullets went.

He grabbed the bomb and took off running. Nothing that got in his way could stop him. He needed no bullets; he simply clubbed his way through the enemy lines. He broke through the first line of Shunam only to find another wave. He paused and bore his into them. They quizzically looked back at him.

“Well who’s going to be first!!? Come at me you ***********!!!”
They gave him a few more odd looks. And then one raised his gun and fired. The shot went right into his head. A look a shock spread it’s way across his face, then it went blank and he crumpled and fell to the ground. When he hit the ground a large object rolled off his back. The Shunam gave each other questioning looks as the one who had fired the shot walked closer to investigate. Before he reached it the bomb went off and took the whole squad with it.

Standard of Honor

Now here is one I wrote years ago for an English class. To this day I think it's one of my best works. Enjoy (or else...)

Standard of Honor

Finbar looked out over the wall with a grim expression at the great mass of enemy soldiers. He knew that his men were far outnumbered and that they were running out of supplies. It had been a long and costly war between his forces and those of Lord Gartang the wild.

“Finbar, what are ya doin’ up ‘ere?” said a voice cutting into his thoughts.

“I don’t know, Martin,” Finbar replied glumly. “What are you doin’ up here?”

“I waz tryin’ to find ya to tell ya dat a rat is approachin’.”

“Well, let’s go find out what he wants.”

They hurried to the south gate where the sentries had just let the rat in. He looked at Finbar and sneered.

“‘Y ‘aster the great Lord Gartang the Wild would like to ‘eet you in a duel tormarra outside this gate.”

After having his say, he walked through the gate and back to his camp, leaving behind a puzzled Finbar and Martin.

“I don’t understand, Martin. His forces outnumber us and he has time on his side. Why would he do this?”

“What I ‘ind stranger is dat he didn’t ask ‘or a response.”

“Maybe he plans on double crossing us, but I still think I shall accept.”

At sunrise the next morning Finbar walked outside wearing his legendary blue armor and surrounded by a score of other soldiers. Lord Gartang stood surrounded by two score of his minions. Then soldiers from both groups formed a circle around the two leaders.

“Prepare to die!” yelled Lord Gartang. “I will kill you as I killed your brother a week ago” then he charged. He slashed out but Finbar quickly parried the blow and struck out at his enemy’s head. Gartang quickly ducked the blow and struck back. It went on this way for many hours, and neither one had gained the upper hand. There was silence from Finbar’s men but Gartang’s men constantly taunted Finbar.

“Ha! Me old grandmum could move ‘aster ‘an that.”

Finbar turned and looked at the rat-like minion, who had said that and replied, “Well bless ‘er old eart.”

At noon the duel between Finbar and Lord Gartang still continued, until suddenly an arrow sprouted out of Finbar’s shoulder. He howled with pain and in the same instant Gartang struck out catching him unprepared, and sent him to the ground. Gartang quickly jumped over and held his sword up Finbar’s neck.

“I should have known you were going to double cross me!” cried Finbar.

“That tis what I don’t understand about you; you fail to see the obvious.”

Quickly Finbar knocked the blade away from his throat and leaped up. But before he could strike at his adversary, something struck him in his head and again he fell to the ground.

“Coward!” Finbar yelled, “Stop this and fight honorably!”

“I call it being smart. Something you obviously don’t know a thing about.”

Finbar again stood up and charged his enemy. He battled with everything he had. Thinking about his brother spurred him on, so he slowly began to gain the upper hand. Soon pure adrenaline began to take control of him.

Bit by bit Gartang began to wear out. His attacks were not as strong and his blocks barely saved him. Panic began to grip him. He had not expected to have to fight such a madman. Finbar seemed to be everywhere stabbing, slashing, and dodging.

After a little while Finbar managed to disarm his opponent and without pause, he drove his sword into his opponent, killing him. When they saw their leader dead, Gartang’s men ran for their lives.

*****

Martin walked across the fort wall to the place, where Finbar’s wounds were being treated. When he got there, he saw a bandaged Finbar sitting there, looking glum.

“Now why do we look so glum, master warrior?” he asked.

“I can’t believe I killed him like that. He was defenseless; he had nothing to protect him and I killed him. When I close my eyes I can still see the panicked look on his face. Even though I know he wouldn’t have spared me, I still can’t help feeling guilty because in front of my own men, I broke my standard of honor.”

Finbar continued to talk for a while. And though he had saved his fort from destruction, he felt as if he had lost.

2113; short story #1

So here is one short story that takes place in the year 2113. I have been planning for a while now to write a full length novel in that time, but so far that has been taking a lot of time. So here is a simple story... (and I probably should mention some things, like how in 2113 we're at war with another race blah blah blah, but I'm to lazy right now) Anyway enjoy...

August 30, 2113
Planet Vulcan

They were in trouble. They were cut off from all friendly forces, let behind as the Shunam continued to push forward. They had linked up with a militia force but had been cut off and now Aaron and his fiancé Jenny walked through a destroyed town full of Shunam trying to get back to safety alive.

*****
Aaron peaked out from behind a crumbled wall. “Great,” he thought to himself “three more Shunam. These bastards are everywhere.”
“How many are there Aaron?” inquired Jenny, who stood next to him behind the wall.”
   “Three.”
“Should we take them or wait for them to move?”
“Take them, one is by a doorway directly across the street from you, while the other two are about 10 feet away to my right. You take the one in the door and I’ll take care of the other two. I’m currently scoped in on one. On my mark… Go!”
Aaron fired off immediately take the first one down and the second shot went into the other Shunam before he could turn fully. Meanwhile Jenny stood up behind the crumbled wall and delivered two shots in the one by the door before he knew what was happening.
Aaron stepped out into the street to survey his work, while Jenny checked out the soldier at the door.
   “Dead”
“Same with these two. Good work. Now let’s get moving in case anyone heard that.”
Without hesitation they both ducked through the door and ran through the store and out through a giant hole on the other side and onto the street on the other side. With every step they came closer to safety and excitement and anticipation was beginning to build up within them. However, as any soldier knows, such emotions have no place on the battlefield because the can distract one. And that’s what happened, Aaron forgot to check around a corner and they walk out a few hundred yards in front a Shunam squad of about twenty-five.
Immediately all emotions were in proper check, but it was too late, the Shunam saw them and opened fire.
“Jenny run!” screamed Aaron and they took off running.
“Look all we need to do is get past these last few building and then we will be so close to our lines that they will not follow us. Now quick turn here.”
They did and found out that, as always, things can get worse. Around the corner stood a few Shunam elite soldiers. Without thinking Aaron grabbed Jenny and ran for the nearest building. They quickly ducked inside and both sat there panting. However, their respite was short lived as shots came tearing through the build. Aaron’s face grew cold as the situation began to dawn on him.
   “Look we’re trapped in here.”
“Then how are we going to get back?”
   “We’re not. You are.”
“What?’ gasped Jenny “Where are you going?”
   “With any luck, heaven.”
“Why?” weakly said Jenny still in shock.
“As I said before we’re trapped in here and the only way one of use gets out and lives is if the other goes first. So that’s what I’m going to do.”
“There has to be another way,” said Jenny short of breath.
“I can’t think of anything else and you need to get out of here.”
   “I won’t just leave you”
“And I won’t let you die.”
“And I won’t let you just throw you life away for me.
“Look at me. I love you. And if there is chance that you will live I will give my life. And there is and all that I ask is that you remember me. I expect my funeral to be one of the most emotional ones ever. And if they leave any of my body maybe you could get some famous guy to do a bust of me.”
“I highly doubt I could do that.”
“Yeah that would be one of the ugliest busts ever. So instead maybe you could get an artist to make a picture of me and make him, you know, ‘touch it up a little.”
In spite of herself Jenny could not suppress a giggle at these words.
“Look you need to get out of here and no more arguing about it. On my mark I will toss both grenades and attempt to flank them and draw them off. As soon as I throw the grenades count to seven and then take off towards the army’s lines. Got it.”
No being able to talk through the lump in her throat Jenny dumbly nodded.
“Alright.” He said softly and then paused for sec and then finally said
   “Ready? GO!”
Instantly he jumped up and threw both grenades and then ran from cover. Immediately they saw him and started firing but had little chance of hitting him through the destroyed walls he kept ducking behind. He was just beginning to think he would survive when as he changing cover a bullet ripped through his should and sent him to the ground hard. Stunned he lay there on the ground. Everything was going hazy. A figure jumped over the broken wall and moved in his direction.
   “Jenny?”
The figure knelt down next to him but before he could process that it was not Jenny, the Shunam stabbed him in the heart.

Welcome to well... I guess this blog...

Hi, I am The Comic Oreo and obviously this is my blog. So basically here I will be posting whatever random stuff I please. Mostly it's probably going to be things like weird, simple and strange short stories. Also for those of you who don't know I have a youtube channel here http://www.youtube.com/user/TheComicOreo?feature=mhee So yeah check that out if you haven't. And yeah be sure to check back here and there often because I can't guarantee when I'm going to post stuff at either place. Inspiration knows no clock (though I'm sure some of you will doubt whether it's inspiration that drives me, or insanity.) So yeah I'm done talking for now. Hope you enjoy whatever this ends up being.
