Eagle 1
“Alright squad listen up. Somewhere in the forest ahead of you is a crashed cargo ship, class Thunder7. We need you to find the ship before the Shunam do. It contains extremely valuable property of the Paladin III program. Your top priority is to search for survivors and if there are none secure the area and wait for orders. We are sending in backup but it may take sometime before they are in a position to assist you and your squad.”
“Roger command this eagal1 team going in.”
“Alright men listen up! We are looking for a Thunder7 class cargo ship containing military property. Our orders are to find that ship, secure as much as we can, and then destroy the rest,” barked Lieutenant Cole.
“What so special about this cargo ship?” questioned corporal Stuart
“It contains property of the Paladin III program, which means whatever it is, it’s expensive and extremely powerful. So let’s go. Elliot and I will take the front, Robert you watch the left, Stuart watch the right, and Sullivan cover our rear.”
“She can cover mine any time she wants to” smirked private Elliot.
“Knock it off now! You stay focused or were all screwed. Anyway, spread out a few meters and keep it as quiet as possible. I’m sure the Shunam saw the ship and are searching for it to. So let’s get going now! Unless of course you have anything else stupid to say Elliot.”
“I would just like to say that you look really hot right now. Just wanted to say that incase I die.”
“If they don’t kill you, I will, unless you leave me alone and shut the hell up,” said private Sullivan with death in her eyes.
“Both of you shut up we’re moving now,” ordered Lieutenant Cole
And with that eagal1 team plunged into the forest.
“Any bloody idea where the hell this ship might be?” inquired private Robert.
“All I know is that it is somewhere in here,” replied Cole.
“Well that’s just fantastic. What are they going to want us to do next? Find a needle a field of hay?”
“Shut up and keep your eyes open.”
They wandered through the forest for half an hour without seeing any sign of the shop or the Shunam. Cole kept pushing them on but soon even he was beginning to question whether someone at command was pulling their legs. Finally he had enough.
“Alright men take five while I try to figure this out. Keep your eyes open though.”
“Command? Come in command this is eagal1 team.”
“Come in eagal1 have you located the ship yet.”
“Negative. Neither have we seen any signs of the Shunam. Look I don’t think we are going to find this thing stumbling around blindly hoping to get lucky.”
“Understood. We are currently working on getting satellite images of the area but so far we haven’t found anything. Oh hang on….”
“Hey I think we have got it here,” he said after a pause “We believe we have located the ship about two miles directly to your east. Move out now. Also, satellite has confirmed the presence of Shunam soldiers in your area so beware. Get to that ship first. Command out.”
“Roger that we’re moving in now,” said Cole turning towards his team. “Alright command has found the ship two miles to our direct east. Let’s go double time.”
“Roger that we’re moving in now,” said Cole turning towards his team. “Alright command has found the ship two miles to our direct east. Let’s go double time.”
However they had barely gone a few steps when a shot rang out.
“Hit the dirt!” screamed Cole but it was too late. Stuart fell to the ground with half of his head missing; shot off by a Shunam sniper. As Stuart hit the ground Elliot caught sight of the sniper and throwing caution to the wind, he charged firing his weapon. The Shunam caught sight of him and took off running. Seeing his enemy had not decided to scope him and then shoot him, Elliot stopped blindly firing, aimed and took his shot. A ruthless grin spread across his face as he saw the sniper fall.
“Time to pay bitch!” he screamed as he ran towards the fallen figure. And then while he was running he heard a click sound. He froze and before he could make exact sense of what he had just heard, a mine went off below him. He instantly died on impact.
Cole looked up just in time to see the explosion and immediately ran over to check on Elliot fully knowing the result. Not even a Paladin III Juggernaut class soldier could survive a Shunam land mine.
Robert caught up behind him and stared wide eyed at the dead bodies of his comrades.
“We need to get out of here now” urged Sullivan.
“Have you no heart!? Two of us just died!” screamed Robert.
“And one died in a big explosion so now probably all the other Shunam know exactly where we are.”
“She’s right Rob,” interject Cole before Robert could protest, “We need to leave now before we end up like them. Grab their dog tags and let’s get the hell out of here.”
Quickly Robert yanked the tags of the necks and they set out once again.
A few minutes later they managed to find the ship without further incident.
“Great now we get to see the reason they sent us without support into a forest crawling with Shunam for” said Stuart as he walked toward the ship.”
“You two check it out. I need to confirm to command that would have found the ship.
Make sure there aren’t any Shunam hiding inside or anything,” replied Cole.
Normally Robert would have called him paranoid, but after losing two of his close companions he really did not feel like taking any chances himself.
“Hey help me get this door open,” yelled Sullivan. It took the both of them to wrench the door open to the cargo bay. Sullivan was the first one and she didn’t take many steps before muttering “holy ****”
Robert wasn’t too far behind and when he caught up to her, he had a similar reaction. Before was the biggest stockpile of the most powerful and most expensive technology they had ever seen. The walls were covered with weapons, all far more powerful than anything the standard soldier received. In the middle of the cargo bay lay ammo containers, but the thing that really caught their attention were the suits. Before them stood ten suit of Juggernaut class soldier battle armor and behind those stood the same number of the Paladin Ghili suits. (The ones that can make a person invisible to the unaided eye). Or at least at first it appeared to be the same number.
“Hang on a sec Robert. One of those suits is missing.”
“Hey look also one mediator shotgun is missing.”
“And also an alpha side arm.”
“Someone else has already been here,” said Robert turning to Sullivan.
“Common we need to tell Cole now!” declared Sullivan.
However, as they turned to the door they heard a dull thud outside the ship. They rushed out to find Cole lying on the ground groaning.
“What the hell happened here?” demanded Sullivan.
Before Cole could respond something struck Sullivan in the back. Robert wheeled around to find himself face to face with… nothing. Then suddenly a form began to materialize before his eyes and he realized he was facing a person who was holding a shotgun right in his face.
“Typical Shunam coward. Taking us out with trickery instead of fighting like a man,” sneered Robert.
“You have ten seconds to take that back or I will be forced to leave you as your companions,” said the person who then took of his helmet and revealed that he was not Shunam, but human.
Robert stared at him dumbfounded.
“Well are you going to stand there all day or should I just do it and get it over with?” inquired the man.
“You’re one of them”
This drew a quizzical look from the man
“What do you mean by ‘one of them’?” he asked
“I mean you’re one of those Paladin super soldiers, a Juggernaut. This explains why they sent us in as fast as they could without any backup. No wait…. Why would they send us in? I mean you’re a Juggernaut. You should be able to defend yourself better than a group of ten soldier can.”
“When the ship went down the damage heartbeat sensor (1) caused my heartbeat to show up on their monitors very irregularly so they probably think I’m dying right now. I have been working on fixing whatever I can to get in communication with them but nothing works after the crash.”
“It’s kinda funny how’s there all that fancy-shmancy tech in the cargo bay and yet you can’t get in contact with anyone,” smirked Robert.
“Watch it or I will lay you out like your friends there.”
“Yeah why exactly did you do that?”
“Strike first or get killed with your pants down. So who’s in charge here?”
“Um that would be me,” said Cole struggling to get on his feet.
“Is it just the three of you or are there others in the shrubbery?”
“Just the three of us Sir,” replied Cole “two of our men were killed a ways back and command has reinforcements en-rout. They want us to hold this position till they get here, but I have no idea how long that will be. Give me a sec to radio the situation in to command.”
“Lieutenant, allow me,” offered the Juggernaut.
“Um, yeah sure… here,” said Cole as he handed the radio to the Juggernaut.
“Command? Come in command. This is Juggernaut class soldier Jeff Garrett reporting in.”
“Garret?!?! Is that really you?” answered a very surprised command.
“Last time I checked I was me.”
“Can the jokes Garret. What’s the situation right now?”
“Well right now I’m alive standing next to a crashed ship with three other soldiers and God knows how many Shunam closing in on this position.”
“Secure the area. Backup should be there in about seven minutes.”
“Roger that,” said Garret as he turned towards Cole, Sullivan, and Robert. “Alright we have to hold this area for about seven minutes until reinforcements arrive. Until then you three need to go into the ship and put on the heaviest armor you guys can and still be able to maneuver. Also, take whatever weapons you want and get ready. Go now!”
They did not need to be told a second time and immediately rushed into the ship, grabbed armor, and selected a few weapons. As they walked out Garret couldn’t suppress a smile.
“Something funny there big guy?” dryly asked Robert.
“Sorry, I just think it’s funny that out all of you three, she’s got the biggest gun. The PSW.”
“And that’s funny why?” demanded Robert.
“Never mind. Anyway what’s-your-name I going to need you to go over and hide behind those two trees there. Lieutenant, I want you inside the ship with that sniper. Make sure to cover your man’s weak side. I myself will crouch behind the ships broken wing. And you,” he said turning to Sullivan “I’m going to need you to cover the rear.”
Immediately Sullivan made a “don’t-any-one-of-you-think-about-saying-it-face.”
Garret ignored this and continued on,
“We only have to survive for about five more minutes and then
Out of nowhere a shot hit Garret in the stomach and he collapsed. Immediately Cole rushed over.
“What the Hell are you doing!? Ger to your positions now!” screamed Garret.
“I thought you might be dead,” replied Cole
“There’s a reason this armor costs so much! Now move your ass!”
Quickly Cole jumped inside the ship and stuck his sniper out through one of the numerous holes in the side of the ship.
“I’ve got the one over by the fallen tree!” he yelled as he took his shot. Unfortunately he had been a bit to eager and the shot hit the Shunam in the chest and did not slow him. Quickly Cole refocused and this time the shot flew true into the head of his enemy.
“Hey I’ve got three over here!” screamed Robert.
“Got it!” replied Cole. I’ve got the back one.” He did not make the mistake of last time he hit his mark on the first try and the Shunam stumbled and died.
“Good shot commander. I’ve got the other two.”
“Alright I’ve got a squad coming in from your right here. As soon as you finish those two I’m gonna need some help.”
Cole and Robert continued on in this way for several minutes not even giving Sullivan or Garret a thought, until Cole turned and saw Garret and his eyes nearly popped out. Garret had about ten Shunam at all time closing in on his, but that didn’t even faze him. He would duck down and then suddenly jump up throw a grenade and proceed to take eight shots, and all the Shunam would fall dead. Cole had never before seen such precision in any soldier ever.
“Hey! What the hell are you doing?” called out Robert.
“Sorry I just caught a glimpse of this Garret guy’s skill. I tell you Robert I have never seen anything like that before.”
He then resumed sniping and with just a minute left and it looking like they could survive, a scream of pain rang out.
“Damn it! That’s Sullivan!” cried Robert.
“You stay here! I’m going to check it out,” ordered Cole.
He ran around back to find Sullivan on the lying on the ground with a large hole in her shoulder and a Shunam running up to finish her off.
“NOOOOOOO” shrieked Cole as he fired off his weapon. The shot hit the Shunam in the shoulder and slowed him down only for a second. He gritted he teeth, pulled out a knife with his other hand and continued running towards Sullivan. Cole started running to her also and took another shot but missed. They reached her about the same time and before the Shunam could plunge the knife Cole tackled him and slammed him to the ground. Before he knew what was happening the Shunam had shrugged him and was standing above him with the knife in his hand. Cole instinctively kicked at his legs and sent him to the ground once again. As soon as he hit the ground, Cole jumped on him and tried to pry the knife away. However, the Shunam still has partial use of the arm that had been shot and he used it to deliver a stunning blow to Cole’s face. Cole fell back and hit the ground hard. He saw the Shunam moving towards him, reached down, grabbed his pistol, and fired. The Shunam was taken completely by surprise and had nowhere to hide. He fell dead with a hole in his head.
Cole slumped back to the ground, exhausted. After another thirty seconds he heard the sound of angels. Or at least to him they were. The backup had arrived.
